Honesty is a major aspect of any great auto repair shop. In fact, most people are worried about dishonesty, since it can result in repairs that are not needed, leading to extra money spent on the job. Find out more specifically why you should look for an honest shop to fix your car.

You want to know what is wrong with your car so you can feel safe as you drive. That means you need to be able to count on the fact that technicians will tell you when there is a problem with your vehicle, ensuring you get the issue repaired quickly before you get back on the road. But you also need to be able to trust that mechanics will not tell you that you need repairs when you do not. You should feel confident that when you bring your car in, the mechanics will examine it carefully and let you know what needs to be fixed today, and what can wait.

You also deserve to know what you will be paying for auto repair. This will allow you to budget carefully. Most shops list their prices on their website or at their location, so you should know what each service will cost. However, you do not necessarily know what is wrong with your car when you bring it in, so it can be hard to say what you will be paying. For this reason, you need to choose a shop that will let you know the total price before fixing any issues. Trustworthy shops usually show you what is wrong and explain the issue, and then tell you what the cost will be so you can agree to get the repairs. Otherwise, you risk ending up with a big bill that you cannot afford, so make sure the business you choose does not surprise customers with the bill.

Another thing shops should be honest about is the amount of time it will take for auto repair. Of course, the time you are told will only be an estimate, but it should be somewhat accurate. Some businesses are way off, telling customers it will only take a few hours, and then it ends up taking days. You deserve to know when you will have your car back, so make sure you choose a business that is known for giving accurate estimates on how much time it will take for auto repair.

Looking for these features before getting repairs can help you be happy with the business you choose. Just keep in mind the importance of honesty when it comes to these traits. Then start looking for local businesses that can fix your vehicle.

Driving down the road, many truck enthusiasts and off road fanatics alike enjoy these high quality bumpers that upgrade any vehicle. Many truck owners often ask where they can get a heavy duty replacement bumper. Normally, these bumpers are hard to find. Truck owners had to search for an auto repair shop in remote towns that ordered the bumpers from welders and charged high prices due to the scarcity and the overhead. Over time, experienced welders developed the high quality bumpers that many would consider the standard of heavy duty bumpers: the Ranch Hand brand heavy duty bumpers.

Ranch Hand style bumpers are made from thick 4" schedule 40 pipe, which is among the best of the industry. It is also a brand that has had rave reviews. Even so, this brand has been hard to find, meaning that you had to search far and wide for a retailer. However, the internet has made it easier to get these heavy duty bumpers. You can actually order the bumper online these for a discount, then have it shipped right to your door or to a commercial business that can also install it for you. Once inaccessible to the public, you can now have these durable oil field style bumpers for your personal use.

Ranch Hand also has various styles depending on what you're looking for. Legend Bumpers have grille inserts with a standard 2" receiver. Summit bumpers feature diamond plate steel. Sports bumpers allow you to retain your factory receiver. You can also choose bumpers with light tabs or upgrade to rubber bumper pads on uprights. Overall, the Ranch Hand frame mounting design custom fits trucks and offers protection. Several of these bumpers also also winch ready. Winch bumpers give added utility and provide maximum pulling power. No matter what bumper you choose, Ranch Hand trademark corrosion-resistant finish helps ensure that the quality of the bumper is long lasting.

To get your Ranch Hand brand bumper, you have to go to a dealer. In the past, truck owners had to search remote areas for dealers that charged high prices. These days, you can actually order the bumper from an online dealer. It is best to go to a high quality, secure website with a drop down in which you can enter the year, make, model. This is the easiest way to find what works for you. With this type of website, you can also order online or over the phone as well. Some websites allow you to shop by category or price to narrow it down. After ordering, you're usually just days away from getting your bumper - an instant upgrade.

Many times, during the summer time parents don't really have many choices when it comes to sending their kids to a camp. This isn't to say that there aren't enough programs around. However, many of these places only offer children a limited amount of activities.

For instance, there's swimming, skating, water balloon fights, the movies and other field trips. Now, these are all great activities that kids have been enjoying for years. However, when it comes to some children, especially older ones, sometimes they need something that is more mentally stimulating. They also need something that will help them in the pursuit of their future goals. In order to solve this issue, some businesses can take it upon themselves to provide the experience and background knowledge that is needed.

For instance, a transmission repair shop can begin a summer program that helps prepare students, who are interested in mechanics, for their future careers. This may not be a feasible idea for businesses who are just starting out or who have not yet become financially stable. That's because a lot of extra manpower is needed to run a summer program. This is especially true for those who have smaller staffs. That's because they will need to hire more people. Therefore, more money is needed.

In order to create a buzz around their program, the transmission repair shops can market to or target youth who are in middle school and high school. One way this can be done is by posting flyers up around the local schools. Of course, they will have to get permission from the principals. In fact, it may be better if they to try to form some type of relationship with the school leadership and administration. This way they can recommend some students to them.

Once the program is started, the transmission repair business can then come up with activities that the children can participate in. One of the things they can do is allow the students to get hands-on experience. Giving them the opportunity to work on vehicles themselves can do this. Of course, it wouldn't be wise to allow them to work on vehicles that belong to actual clients. However, junk cars or vehicles that are no longer in service are great options to allow the students to work on. Transmission repair issues aren't the only things they could work on, however. The specialists can also teach the students basic mechanical skills.

This type of camp is great and unconventional. Having fun during the summer time is important, but it's also great when students can do something that can benefit them and assist them in pursuing their future endeavors.

There is a big debate whether you should grow up and be a white collar worker, or a blue-collar worker. Not long ago, I was sitting in a coffee shop that I was talking to a young lawyer who was obviously stressing out because he wasn't making any money and worried about losing his job. He was talking with me, and an auto mechanic that owned a repair shop. The owner of repair shop was complaining that he had to pay his mechanics over $30 an hour or you couldn't get anybody that was any good. The young lawyer noted that lately he's been barely making $30 per hour.

Interestingly enough, most of the auto mechanics, have received their training for free from the companies they work at. While the lawyer had to spend nearly $100,000 going to law school and he has steep student loans. The lawyer drives a nicer car, has a Rolex Watch and wears nicer close to work, but he has fewer toys, less time to spend with his family, and he is hugely in debt unlike the auto mechanics that work for the auto repair shop owner that was discussing this with him.

The lawyer said he liked to work in an air-conditioned office and that was worth it to him. Then the auto repair person said that he uses air conditioning in his shops also, because it is a recruiting tool to get the top mechanics to come work in a shop rather than somewhere else.

He also noted that there has been a big shortage of car mechanics in the past and without the air-conditioning he probably couldn't get anybody to work there, or least he couldn't get the best mechanics in the area to work for him. In fact, he attributed much of this to the success of his automotive repair shop. Please consider all this.

Pouring used motor oil into a hole in the ground is not allowed by law anymore. In the old days that was common practice and no one even gave it a second thought. Oil comes from the ground so pouring it into a hole in the ground just kind of made sense at the time.

Today society is better aware of the dangers of doing such things and that it can contaminate drinking water sources. There are also specific laws which forbid dumping oil in the ground or even in the trash dumpster.

But that leaves the question of how does your favorite auto repair shop deal with getting rid of used automobile fluids like oil, gas, windshield wiper fluid, transmission fluid, power steering fluid, and more? Do they pour it down the drain? And what about a used oil filter that is saturated with oil? Do they just toss it in the trash can? We sure don't want a landfill full of used oil filters with oil slowly leaking into the ground over time.

Fluid disposal has actually become a big business and there are many companies that exist solely to facilitate the proper handling and disposal of these potentially hazardous materials. Check the internet by doing a local search for these types of companies if you need to get rid of potentially dangerous materials. For some shops though, hiring a company is just not affordable or practical.

Fortunately, many cities and counties have constructed disposal centers that these type of items can be taken to and at no cost dropped off for proper handling. Most of these facilities are conveniently located and easily accessible giving businesses and the general public a safe and free place to drop off these materials. They even accept things like used batteries in addition to general household trash.

If you can't afford a service company to come by and pick up used motor oil, batteries and other similar items search your local area for an approved drop off facility. Using the internet to search for facilities is one way. Enter the topic in your favorite search engine and add your city name to see what results comes up. The best way though is probably to call your local city or county government office and ask them for the location of a disposal site near you. There should be one close by as many years ago most cities and counties began building these types of facilities to make sure people had a place to properly dispose of materials that have proven to be detrimental to the environment.

There are two main reasons people want performance lift kits for their diesel truck or SUV. The first is an increase in the comfort, traction, fuel efficiency, horsepower and torque, and acceleration of the vehicle, particularly when going off-road. The second reason is, of course, that they can make your diesel vehicle the most impressive looking and sounding beast on the road. With advances in technology and design you don't have to sacrifice one for the other - you can choose the optimal performance upgrades for your truck or SUV, and customise the design to fit any look you want.

Installing a lift kit should be your starting point for any performance upgrades to your diesel truck or SUV. This will raise your suspension and give you more room to work with later, so you have more options for your wheel, engine, and exhaust upgrades. Not only that, a suspension lift kit will also improve your fuel efficiency, and give you a far smoother ride.

Before Installing

Choosing the type of lift kit or suspension work you want done can be tricky. You have to consider not just the model of your vehicle, but also how you plan to use it. If you are using your diesel vehicle for a lot of off-road rock-crawling at low speeds, you'll have a different set of needs to somebody who does a majority of highway or long distance driving. To make the process smoother, make sure you have considered this question before you talk to your mechanic. This is mostly an issue of safety and optimal performance, whatever you plan to use your diesel vehicle for you should be able to customise its look to your preferences.

Installing a Lift Kit

Once you have decided on the appropriate suspension lift kit for your diesel vehicle, it is time to start the installation process. Again, this can be tricky with many factors to consider. Things like the length of your drive shaft, the overhang of your fenders, added air lockers, and the gear ratio in your axels all have to be considered and possibly modified. This is not a task you would want to undertake at home without prior knowledge - finding a reputable auto repair shop and discussing what the process would be for your specific vehicle is the best bet for a novice.

Disadvantages of Suspension Lift Kits

Unfortunately, modifying the suspension in your diesel vehicle does come with some risks. The extra height will change the way you navigate turns, as your centre of gravity will be raised - this can lead to less stability, but can be compensated for once you get a feel for the new handling. The recommended maximum height for lift kits is 4 inches, anything above that will lead to a considerable change in the way your vehicle handles and will take some getting used to.

If you are planning to install larger tyres after your lift kit (and you most likely will be when you see how puny your wheels look under your upgraded suspension), you should be mindful that you will lose some traction when driving at high speeds on the highway. While larger tyres are great for increasing stability in off-road conditions, you will find driving on the road will become slightly more difficult. As with the raise in your centre of gravity, it is nothing that you can't get used to with a little practise.

Body Lifts Vs. Suspension Lifts

This article has been discussing suspension lift kits, designed specifically for those who want to go off-road and get the best performance. A body lift gives you the same aesthetic results as a suspension lift, but won't give you any of the off-road performance benefits. A suspension lift kit will lift the entire frame, power train, and engine on springs to your requested height. A body lift kit will simply raise the body - giving you the same look and customisation options, but without the off-road stability and fuel economy. A body lift is substantially cheaper than a suspension lift, and doesn't require the same level of personalisation and workmanship. So if you aren't going off-road, but do want the look and sound of an off-road rig, a body lift kit may be your best option.

If you take your vehicle to a reputable, full service repair shop, you may be offered a wide variety of options. Your knowledgeable vehicle technician can help you decide on the best solution for your problem after conducting a multi-point inspection service. Taking your vehicle to a full service transmission shop gives you the benefit of getting the service you actually need. If you were to take your vehicle to a car care center that only specialized in a certain area of transmission service, they might recommend a more expensive procedure, even thought it would be more cost efficient and necessary to get a less costly one.

Although it may be more common to replace a transmission than to get a transmission repair service, you should know that the cost of a full replacement might be costly. Take your vehicle to a reputable full service repair center so you can get the service that is best for your car. Your auto center may recommend a rebuild that consists of a complete tear down of the transmission, an inspection of all parts, and replacing the needed parts. The next step is to reassemble everything and place it back into your vehicle. If professional in auto repair performs this job, they will not cut corners and will complete a very successful operation of the need of your vehicle for you.

Taking your vehicle to a full service repair shop that has a history of being dependable and honest with their customers will give you the assurance that you never get unnecessary work done. Your problems may not end up being as complex as a new transmission or a rebuild, but may only call for a simple transmission repair service. In this case, the auto technician will go through a thorough inspection, find the specific problem, and will fix or replace the part that is failing. You usually require this type of service when you have a fluid leak, hear noises coming from under the hood, or smell a strange odor coming from the transmission.

You can consult with an experience auto technician at a reputable full service shop to see what the best option is for you. A transmission repair specialist will fix your vehicle effectively, and you can return to the road with the assurance you will be riding safely. Give the shop a call for business hour information, locations, pricing information, and if they offer coupons on their services.

Everyone should have a favorite auto repair shop they are familiar and comfortable with. Everyone has a dentist they go to for checkups. Everyone has a family doctor, or should have a family doctor; they go to for medical problems. Men have a certain barber they like to go to for haircuts. And the same can be said for women and their hair needs. The list goes on and on. So why do so many people not have an automotive shop they trust?

When our car breaks down, and we do not have a favorite service location, we go into panic mode. We are so dependent on our cars; our first thought is how I will get to work tomorrow. Our second thought is what is wrong with my car, where will I take it, how much will it cost, and how long it will take to get repaired. Without that favorite service shop, we search online for a place to take or have our car towed to. We call the shop and describe what the car is doing, or not doing. They say we need to take a look, and we are booked until next week. Now what do I do?

One of the reasons they may be booked up until next week is they are taking care of their repeat customers. Customers who come in and have their oil changed routinely, who have all their car service needs done at one automotive service center. You get no special treatment because they do not know you. You just go to the bottom of the list. And good auto repair shops are busy. It probably is a long list that you are at the bottom of.

To correct this problem, start having your oil changed at a local automotive shop. Yes, it may cost a few dollars more than one of the oil change franchises, but you can start establishing a relationship with an auto repair shop. Wouldn't you rather test out a repair shop with an oil change, than say a transmission repair? If you are not treated right, try a different shop next time. Keep changing until you find one you like.

To find a good auto repair shop, you start with your small auto maintenance needs first. Keep visiting the same shop and establish a relationship with them. Recommend them to your family and friends. Then, the next time you have an emergency car repair, you should go to the top of the list.

A good way to comparison shop is to ask questions and look for estimates from a high quality, full-service repair shop. You will not save money by delaying or foregoing your routine vehicle maintenance. The longer you wait, you risk paying increased repair costs. In many cases you can help prevent vehicle breakdowns by focusing on keeping your smaller repair services on schedule.

Independent repair shops compete to charge less expensive labor rates than dealerships and can be more personable in aiming for high customer satisfaction ratings. It is easier to deal directly with the owner or the car technician at an independent facility, allowing you to have better communication with the experts who directly repair your car. You can expect more focused service.

You can ask to view their technology certifications and training certificates. In most cases their certifications from the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) are posted in the waiting area along with other manufacturer service training credentials. Collision repair shops often have certificates from training offered by the Inter-Industry Conference on Auto Collision Repair (I-CAR).

You can also ask about their repair equipment and technology. A good independent shop should be able to explain to you how they keep their service equipment and technology current. The amount of information necessary to repair various car brands cars can no longer be effectively contained in paper manuals. Quality Independent shops have Internet access to repair information or an on-site service information library of CD or DVD's.

Independent shops often offer discounts. If you are seeking to be a new customer, ask them if they can provide you with a first time discount. In some cases, if you are paying in cash instead of credit card and saving them processing fees, they may be willing to offer a better discount on your estimate. They may belong to certain car clubs and auto forums that also offer discounts to members.

A good warranty can often be a deal maker or a deal breaker. Before you choose a repair facility, ask for their warranty on the service or repair you are seeking. Compare the miles and timing of each. A Quality independent repair facility will stand behind their parts and labor.

An independent repair facility will buy quality parts and should be are able to pass down reasonable part costs to their customers. Ask to see the parts information and parts warranty so you can make sure they are using the best recommended parts on your car.

The tiny details matter. A clean customer waiting area and restrooms are all signs of attention to detail and quality. It is best to try out an independent shop with a small service first, such as an oil change or minor tire service, just to judge the experience before you invest more. See how they respond to your questions and view the operations to make a decision.

Welding machines are better defined as tools or equipment which use heat and pressure to create a joint between two pieces of metals or materials. Welding equipment find great use in various production units that produce engineering materials and in automobiles and aerospace industries. They are also used widely in manufacturing companies of train carriages and coaches. Welders have a widespread use in most of the industries.

Looking at welders as equipment of the industries is a narrow perspective. They are also successfully used in small shops of repair and small scale manufacturing workshops. Welding machines are of different kinds and depending upon the source of energy used to create welds; these welding machines are classified as Arc Welders; Fusion Welders; Plasma Cutting Machine; Resistance Welders; Solid State Welders and other similar devices.

Out of all these welding equipment, MIG welding machines are most versatile and are available in various sizes and find different uses. They are available in small and light portable sizes. Unmatched MIG welders are most suited for high performance task and unmatched services. Their USP is that they can utilize all cold running temperatures and prevent distortion of metals. MIG welders work very well on thin metals as well. These small welding MIG machines are thus ideally suited for small shops of automotive repair and also small tasks at home.

There are apart from the patent welding machines mentioned above; some new welding machines which have excellent features and unmatched performance capabilities. Portable welders are another class of welding machines, and as the name suggests, these welders can be used most anywhere power is available. Portable welders can be used by drawing power from the engine of cars and trucks and are very easy to operate as well. They find good use for mechanics on the move and can perform welding actions even on roads. Most portable welders have insulated plastic body and use a single phase power supply. The sleek and sturdy designs of these machines make them an all purpose machines.

Another important welding machine that can be put in the class of small scale welding useful for shops and homes is the plasma cutter. It is essentially used to cut steel and other metals that conduct electricity. The plasma cutter however is used in heavy industries, with developed technology plasma cutters have become handy and cheap to be owned by small shops and hobbyists alike. Hand plasma cutter is very useful in such mechanic shops and even homes of would be welders as they are very simple to operate.

Thus it can be said that welding is essentially an industrial process, welding as a process and also as a profession is increasingly being taken up on a smaller scale as well. Most people find a small welding shop a profitable profession and thus invest little money in welding machines of smaller size and stature. These welders however are as competitive as there bigger counterparts, because it is a well accepted fact that technology is shrinking the world and its equipment.

The other day, I was talking to an acquaintance in Colorado, he managed a truck wash, and as we got to talking, it was obvious that he was looking for additional revenue streams to become more profitable. One of the challenges with running a truck wash in Colorado in the wintertime is that the trucks get very dirty due to the salt on the roads, or in some cities they put sand on the road - obviously that gets all over the trucks. That plus many workers don't like working in freezing cold weather, and when you get soaking wet, it turns to ice on your uniform.

Therefore, there is a need to heat the facility, and the water. This costs money. Nevertheless, humans have a difficult time working in adverse conditions, and the wash process slows down significantly, it hurts the volume or the number of trucks which can be washed per day. Indeed, if you are freezing cold, you are more concerned about staying warm, than you are chipping away the ice and caked on crud off the truck you are cleaning. Now then, what about a service business such as a detail shop in the summertime?

Well, it's basically the same problem in reverse. The other day at Starbucks I was talking to a fellow entrepreneur who also had experience running a detail shop. His detail shops were in Arizona, and later he had one in Nevada. It got so hot in the summer time that the swamp coolers couldn't keep up, and therefore he was forced to close the bay doors, and turn on the built-in air-conditioning system.

Because it was a large industrial building with a high ceiling, and because the roll up doors did not make a completely tight fit his air-conditioning costs went through the roof, literally, and the sides of the doors too - and when a car was completed and pulled out, out went whatever cold air was left!

Does it make sense to keep a detail shop air-conditioned? Well, you don't want to have the air-conditioning run the temperature down too much. Optimally, it makes sense to keep it at 78 to 80-degrees, anything less will cost a l lot of money at the end of the month, and zap all your profits. Further, if it's much over 80-degrees, the workers slowdown, start dragging, and you won't get as much work done. Another thing that I had found over the years was that other detail shops which did not have air conditioning would have their top detailers quit, and come over and work for one of our franchisees that did have air conditioning.

Because of this we were able to keep the best auto detailing technicians, and we didn't even have to pay them more. They came for the air-conditioning, and if you had to work outside every day in extremely hot weather, you'd understand. Anyway, the fellow entrepreneur I was talking to and I both agree on that point. And so I thought I'd share this with you. Indeed I hope you will please consider all this and think on it.

When most people hear the words "air conditioning problems", it sends a shiver up their spine. That is because the air conditioning system is fairly complex. It has a lot of parts and when it is broken, it is expensive to repair.

The most common cause of air conditioning failure is leaks. When the Freon or refrigerant, the stuff that makes the air cold, leaks out, it reduces the efficiency of the system, making the compressor work harder to cool the air. Then there is the all important oil that lubricates and keeps the compressor from failing which is carried by the refrigerant. So you can see how important it is to keep your A/C properly filled with refrigerant to move the oil that protects the compressor.

When the cold air your vehicle puts out starts dwindling, you may be tempted to "try" a cheap, quick-fix like a leak sealing product. Sometimes this works-for a while. Sometimes it does not. I will explain...

Problem #1: There are two types of sealants available. And they each work differently. So for starters you will need to identify exactly the type of leak you have, and then purchase the right sealant for the job. Then you would probably stand a chance of stopping or slowing down the leak. However, more often it will end up costing you more money later on.

Problem #2: We have encountered systems with un-repairable restrictions and damaged compressors due to these sealants. Some systems sustained damage within a week of use!

The good news-these stop leak products are fairly inexpensive.

The bad news-most vehicles with sealant installed will require replacement of all the A/C components to do the job right with a warranty. This is because there is not an approved flushing solvent (at this time) that will remove hardened sealant. And A/C compressor builders and suppliers are scrutinizing returned compressors and may not warranty one if there is sealer in it, just as they have refused when they find evidence of unapproved refrigerants, oils, or flush chemicals present.

Most auto repair shops will not use their expensive A/C machines to recover and recharge your A/C if your system tests positive for an A/C sealant. They are reluctant to service a system with sealant because their machine WILL be damaged by these materials. So if you cannot afford to replace all of the refrigerant carrying parts in your A/C system, then we do not recommend using any sealant products.

What things can I do to prevent an air conditioning breakdown?

First you should run the air conditioner regularly, even during the winter, so that it lubricates itself and keeps the seals from drying out, which leads to leaks. Your owner's manual will have recommendations for how often to operate your air conditioner. Of course, if it is not working right, now is the time to get it checked.

Then have your air conditioning system serviced by your repair shop every other year to help it keep its cool. A quick inspection and sometimes adding a little refrigerant can help you avoid having to bring your air conditioner in for major repairs. It will pay for itself in the long run. So, if your A/C is just a lot of hot air, take it to an automotive service center for an inspection.

Your brakes need to be serviced when they have a problem. It is very important that you listen to the sound they make from time to time. If they are noisy, than you may need to take your vehicle to a mechanic. If your pads are worn out, the brakes are probably very noisy, so the pads will need to be replaced. If you wait too long, you may damage your rotors. Brake pads wear out after a while, and that's perfectly normal. The brake pads keep the braking system functioning properly.

You should ask a mechanic to inspect your brake system and let you know what the problem is. If you have a problem with the system, your mechanic can also provide you with an estimate for what the repairs and parts will cost you. Your mechanic may give you a print out that lists what the costs will be. A mechanic can also check your braking fluid and the cables in the system. Most auto repair centers have affordable prices when it comes to brakes, so if it's outside of your area of expertise, you should take your car to a professional.

Your brakes also need to be inspected twice a year because eventually, you will need to replace your rotors. The rotors get worn out after a while. You may hear a loud noise or a high pitch noise when the rotors need to be replaced. Keep in mind that one brake pad usually costs about 10 dollars or less, but you should always purchase a pair of brake pads. Together, brake pads and rotors will cost you less than $99.

You can find a good auto service center or brake repair mechanic by looking in the phone book, online directories, or talking to people you know. Make sure the mechanic you choose offers brake repair service and make sure he is certified. You can find out how good an auto service center is by checking the Better Business Bureau website.

Make sure the auto repair shop offers a warranty on their work if you want to have peace of mind. If you have a warranty and your brakes fail on you, the auto shop will fix the problem for you for free. If the auto repair shop offers a warranty, find out how long it's good for. Some auto repair shops offer 6 month warranties and other places offer 90 day and 30 day warranties. You should also find out if the warranty covers labor and parts.

When you find a good auto repair shop, find out what their hours are and find out how long it will take for the brake repair job to get done. You should also get a full explanation of what's going to be done to your car. Unexpected work may sometimes be necessary, but only consent to its performance if you trust the mechanic's diagnosis.

You should never choose an auto repair shop based on their prices. The best auto repair shops may charge higher prices, but they will do quality work and give you the best service. If you follow these tips, you will find a good maintenance garage and you will be driving comfortably for many years.

The automotive equipment industry deals with the production of every kind of tool and machinery that is needed for the manufacture, maintenance and repair of vehicles including cars and car parts. As such, the industry produces several different varieties of equipment starting from basic hand tools to more complex machinery.

Different Kinds of Automotive Equipment

Automotive workshops and garages will be unable to function without automotive equipment. Shop furniture, lifts, exhaust hoses, air compressors, lubrication equipment, electric and light reels, jacks, vehicle servicing equipment, fluid storage tanks and trans-air piping are some of the many different types of automotive equipment that are used by automotive manufacturing and automotive repair businesses.

Common Types Of Automotive Equipment

* Hand Tools: Automotive repair shops use several different types of hand tools for their repair and maintenance projects. Some of the commonest items include ratchet sets and wrench sets, crowbars (also known as pry bars), socket sets, screwdrivers, star and clutch-head drivers, hammers, pliers and wire cutters, electric drills, hacksaws and torque wrenches.

* Pneumatic Tools: Most automotive workshops now use pneumatic tools as an alternative to electricity powered motors because the latter is more prone to fire hazards. Such tools are powered by compressed air and are high powered versions of the more traditional hand tools. Common examples of pneumatic automotive equipment include air compressors that can be used to power a variety of tools including hammers, drills, ratchets and spraying tools.

* Availability of pneumatic equipment makes it easier for mechanics and technicians to undertake repair and maintenance work because they are powerful and easy to use. For example, a set of pneumatic shears can cut through sheet metal at a faster rate and leave behind a smoother edge when compared to traditional tin snips. Similarly, air hammers outfitted with chisel or punch bits have multiple uses. They can they be used for straightening dents. The chisel feature can be used to break rusted parts loose and the punch bits can be used to remove old rivets and bolts that are too difficult to take out by hand.

* Lifts: several different kinds of lifting equipment are used to lift and secure cars so that mechanics and repair persons can easily work under the vehicle. These lifting tools include both low-tech tools such as basic floor jacks, car ramps and jack stands as well as hydraulic lifts and floor jacks for better efficiency and performance.

* Vehicle Exhaust Removal Systems: vehicle exhaust removal systems are used to capture and remove harmful exhaust fumes to insure optimal air quality in automotive maintenance and repair facilities. These are mandatory equipment as per OSHA Standards in order to limit exposure to harmful vehicular emissions. Common vehicle exhaust removal systems include hose drops as well as reels.

* Lubrication Systems: Automotive lubrication systems include several different types of oil meters, ATF meters, gear lube meters, dispense valves and grease dispenses valves.

The Automotive equipment business is a very large and competitive business. Automotive repair businesses must buy equipment from reputable dealers for the best deals and performance levels.

There are some businesses that can be financially successful year round. It doesn't matter month or the season, they will have a steady and prosperous income. Then, there are those who do well during one part of the year, but horribly during other parts.

Take transmission repair shops, for instance. For the most part, these businesses tend to do fairly well throughout the year. That's because people can have car trouble at any time. With that being said, some of the lowest sales that these companies experience can occur during holidays like Christmas. That's because people are usually spending their money on other things like gifts for family members and friends. Therefore, they may hold off on things such as getting transmission repair work done. So, it wouldn't be surprising to find out that these types of businesses see a decrease in sales during that time. Besides, how many people fix vehicular issues for others as Christmas gifts?

Although this particular holiday can prove discouraging to some transmission repair businesses, there are several things that business owners can do to take advantage of this time of year and increase their overall customer base.

One of the things they can do is offer holiday discounts. Discounts and sales get just about anyone's attention. As previously mentioned, most people are spending much of their money on gifts during Christmas time, therefore being able to save money is something that they will appreciate.

Along with discounts, they can also offer free services. Of course, it wouldn't be wise to offer free services to everyone who asks. However, they could do something like offer their first 20 customers of the month, free transmission fluid. This may seem like a small and insignificant gesture, but there are many people who could use something this type of offer, especially during the holidays.

Now, it's one thing to have the idea to offer discounts and free items. However, the businesses must then figure out how to market their discount campaign to potential customers. This may be a seemingly difficult thing to do during this particular time of year. That's because they must compete with various other business advertisements.

So, the best way to get the job done is to play off of the holiday theme. If possible, the businesses could advertise their companies during the same time and in the same places that most other businesses advertise. Therefore, if most of the local entities are advertising in the Sunday paper, the transmission repair shop should do the same. This will give them a better opportunity to be seen.

Even though the holidays may seem like a slow time for certain types of businesses, it doesn't necessarily have to be that way. All it takes is a little diligence and creativity.

Let's face it - entrepreneurs only start a business for one reason - to make money. Why would someone go through all the expense, risk, and pain of starting a company if there wasn't hope of significant reward? I'm not saying that everyone is money hungry or greedy, but I am saying that a business is there to make money.

An automotive service shop is a business. In order to keep running, they need to make money. Most shops employ a salesman, also known as a service writer whose primary duties include writing up customers, communicating between the customer and the mechanic, some even inspect vehicles with the technicians, and most importantly, selling service to ensure company profitability. Like any good salesman should, they will befriend you and recommend services to "help" you out.

Here's what most people don't know about service advisors - they are paid in commissions. Like any other salesman, the more they sell, the more they get paid. Thankfully there are a lot of good people out there who truly want to do you right and keep your business. However, for every honest automotive service representative that's out there today, there are 9 more that only care for their paycheck.

The U.S. Economy has seen better days. Unfortunately, as money becomes scarce, more people will result to any means in order to make a buck. Look at the rise in scams taking place today. A prime example is the lottery scams where you receive an e-mail or telephone call saying you have received a large sum of money, but you must send money first to receive your fake "winnings". Or the latest "loan scam" where a company says they can loan you around $5,000 with bad or no credit, but you must pay the first few payments up front.

The BBB (Better Business Bureau) was developed to protect consumers from businesses that have repeatedly done customers wrong. Also, some states such as California took it a step further and developed the BAR (Bureau of Automotive Repair), to protect consumers from shady shops. Unfortunately, these services usually only catch the worst of the worst, and a lot of shops still get away with bad business.

So what can you do to protect yourself? Find a shop you are familiar with or that has a good rapport with their customers. Even though it can be time-consuming, shop around for pricing to keep them honest. Research and come up with a service plan that suites your needs. Lastly, always get second or even third-party opinions, even when it comes to that mechanic you have known for years. Or if you would prefer a professional to protect you when it comes to maintaining and repairing your vehicle, seek out a company like Auto Service Security. Spending a little extra time, may save you a lot of money and hassle.

Nothing lasts forever, not even car brakes. They will need to be replaced occasionally. Determining how often you will need to find a shop advertising auto repair in Sterling, VA, will depend on factors, such as how often you use your vehicle, your car maintenance, and the way you drive.

You should not attempt to change your brakes or brake pads yourself. If the job is not done right, you may end up without brakes all together when you are on the road. That can have a traumatic end. Therefore, leave your brake exchanges and repairs to a professional.

If you are new in town and are looking for a reliable supplier of auto repair in Sterling, consider the following advice.

1. Do not just rely on word of mouth - It does not matter who you ask, but everyone has a favorite mechanic. While this car expert may indeed be an authority in the field, you do not know this first hand. A quick call to the Better Business Bureau and reading a vast number of online consumer reviews can quickly shed light on this issue.
2. Verify prices - When you need auto repair in Sterling, visit several shops to ask for written estimates. These quotes have to be in writing so the shop manager cannot change his mind later on. Make sure that all mechanics are offering the same services for the price they quoted. Leaving out a few pertinent details will jack up the charges later on when they are added.
3. Business history - The longer a mechanic has been employed, the more he will know about fixing brakes and other vehicle repairs. An experienced car repairman can handle all vehicles, no matter what model, brand or year. He will also gladly answer any questions you may have.

Running a business can be an exciting venture. You get to call all of the shots and you don't really have to report to anyone. However, this does not come without a great deal of responsibility. If you don't know how to maintain your establishment, you will soon find yourself either putting it up for sale or getting into some serious debt. One of the things you can do to keep your business afloat is to make sure your customers are always satisfied. Therefore, if you run an establishment that runs people away, there's a good chance it won't last.

One of the ways you can help to ensure your customers are pleased is by providing a comfortable and aesthetically appealing facility. This may seem like a no-brainer. However, there are certain types of establishments that don't put much effort into decorating their buildings.

Take a transmission repair shop for instance. Many would agree that a great deal of auto shops don't try very hard to make their waiting areas welcoming. When walking into some of these establishments, there might be old, raggedy chairs that sit atop unpolished concrete flooring. Little do the owners know, they are hurting their business. Of course, there are faithful customers who still patronize the establishment. On the other hand, there are people who are completely turned away from the business because of the way it looks. So, although the business may offer great transmission repair services, their top-notch services are overshadowed by their lack of interior decorating.

Now, this doesn't mean that a transmission repair shop should go out of their way and spend money that they don't have in an attempt to look more appealing. It also doesn't mean they must hire an expensive decorator. All it really takes is a little effort and creativity.

For instance, instead of outdated and unappealing floors, the business could install hardwood flooring. Not only does this type of flooring look nice, it is also easier to clean than other floor types like carpet.

Secondly, the establishment could make sure to purchase nice, comfortable chairs for customers to sit in while they wait. The chairs don't have to be expensive. There are several affordable options available.

Another great idea would be to incorporate wall art. This can include paintings, drawings or even posters. It's also not imperative that all of the artwork is centered on the automotive industry.

All of these ideas may seem like no-brainers. However, there is many a transmission repair shop that neglects to incorporate even these basic elements. What they don't realize is that they are hurting their own business in the process.
